Four FAB Finalists Announced for the 2014 SMEG Art Design Award Competition
The 2014 SMEG Art Design competition is delighted to announce the four finalists for this year’s prestigious competition.
A big congratulations must be given to the following four contenders; Julie Ashby (design: Eleganza), Matt Blackmore (design: Around the World), Nikolai Sorensen (design: Knit) and Aleisha Stanton (design: The Direction of the Future).
Each finalist will receive their own SMEG FAB28 Fridge, and now has the opportunity to turn their creative contemporary drawings into one-off pieces of SMEG Art.
SMEG New Zealand Distributor and Managing Director Rachel Louie says that she’s looking forward to seeing each design come to life.
“This competition continues to highlight the creative minds and innovative design work that’s out there in the market,” says Louie.
“We’ve received dozens and dozens of entries these past weeks and our judges have done the unenviable task of narrowing those submissions down to just four incredible finalists; we’re really looking forward to showing the public a completely different perspective on how a FAB28 fridge could look and feel come September at the Auckland Home Show” she says.
Designers and design schools throughout the country were invited to take part in the competition in which participants are asked to take the popular SMEG FAB28 ‘50s retro style fridge and redesign it into a work of art.
Participants were asked to choose between the categories of Technology, Italian Design or Graphic Design to take inspiration for their innovative designs.
New Zealand’s most awarded kitchen designer Mal Corboy, sought-out kiwi artist Dave Sotogi, brilliant furniture designer Tim Webber and renowned fashion designer Kiri Nathan form the formidable industry panel tasked with considering each entry and nominating the four finalists.
Their next challenge will be to judge the winner of the competition.
All four finalists will be displayed for the public to enjoy and also to have their say and vote for their favourite at the Auckland Home Show (September 10th – 14th) in the SMEG exhibition area.
The fridges will later go up for auction with funds going to charity.
